percussionlab.com – a fine selection of dj recordings
“Percussion Lab is a collective of like-minded artists, DJs, record labels and selectors. Since 2002 we’ve been curating an exclusive collection of live and DJ sets from our favorite artists, DJs and record labels which we hope will give you a taste of the Percussion Lab community.”I´m glad i found out about percussionlab.com. I think this is by far the best collection of good dj sets i´ve seen on one place in the web. With great musical diversity, this website is rich on content, organized and visually appealing. Again Praveen and Sougwen Chung i blogged about, are involved. All thumbs up!

This keeps Kids dancing by Shalla Bros

Business as usual: another banging minimal techno set by Shalla Bros. This one starts smooth and keeps growing until the end. I listened to the mix at work yesterday and i really enjoyed it. This keeps big kids dancing..
THIS KEEPS KIDS DANCING by shalla bros.
As always here´s more about Shalla Bros:

Sounds by Sbtrkt, James Blake, Sepalcure, Rumblejazz and more…
I decided to share some of the tunes i´ve been finding across the web these days and that i´m really into. Regular readers of the blog may have realized that dubstep, 2-step and the UK and US bass sounds really work for me. The smooth and deep atmosphere found in some of the chilled dubstep tracks is unique to me in electronic music and the melancholic feel to the burial-like sounds is great, specially for this time of the year in northern europe. On the other hand the new garage and 2-step sounds being produced have a really fresh and funky feel to them…So some of this stuff is reallly groovy and danceable, and some ist just to lean back and think about the last time you´ve felt sand and salt-water between your toes. And it should not forget to mention that most of these tracks are recent but that im just posting stuff i like without wanting to present the freshest sounds around. Big up!
(Note: If some of the soundcloud players are not working properly please follow the link on the bottom. It will work on the soundcloud page)
Sbtrkt
The first 2 tracks are from Sbtrkt. First one is a remix by Sbtrkt from MJ Cole´s track “Sanctuary” released originally in 1999. I listened to MJ Cole for many years and i think this remix works great for the new directions garage is going. The second is dubstep but goes for smooth danceable rythm (forthcoming on Brainmath Rec in March/April 2010). Sbtrkt is a London based producer..have a eye on him!

Shortstuff & Brackles
Third track ist from Shortstuff & Brackles, 2 producers based in south england. A future garage track, really nice melody and vibe. Shortstuff´s myspace is here, and Brackles here.
This track was released on the Compilation “Fabric Presents Elevator Music: Vol. 1″ in February 2010.
Chat roulette by Casey Neistat
Ever heard of the website chatroulette.com? It´s a “new service for one-on-one text-, webcam- and microphone based chat with people around the world.”
Casey Neistat did a great film about it. After watching this go see the 24 best chat roulette screenshots. I really had a good laugh..
By the way, i really like Casey´s other productions so don´t forget to check out his vimeo page.
Fresh downtempo mixes from Gelka
Sergio and Alex aka Gelka produced one of the best chill albums from 2008 and their track “Soon” is among my all time favourites. Such a positive groove. The gelka mixtapes are a nice mixture of old-school chill, jazz, nu-jazz, downtempo and hip hop. Perfect for home listening, chilling after a party or just for your way to work. Go for their soundcloud for the tracklisting. Full respect Gelka!!
Sepalcure: Lovestep featuring Praveen in the mix and Sougwen Chung
Sepalcure is a collaboration of Brooklyn’s Praveen and Machinedrum. The two are creating something they call Lovestep, a combination of soulful house and 2 step beats. Here´s what they write about themselves:
“Sepalcure’s combination of love for bass and 90s house acapellas is the culmination of a cathartic two week collaboration between Machinedrum and Praveen. Their mix of tribal dub, house and two step beats works equally well for both late nights in the club and rainy, introspective nights at home. Detroit techno chords cut through wooden beats, neon synths and dubbed out atmospherics. Future lovestep.”I really like the idea and the´ve got proper support with the art direction by Sougwen Chung who produces imagery that goes with the music.
Sepalcure – Feeling That I Know So Well from sougwen on Vimeo.
This mix by Preaveen is from November 2009 and features some of the best mellow dubstep tracks from 2009. This works so well for the frosty winter here in Berlin..some of my favourite tracks are among these.

The work of Michael Johansson
I really like organized, symmetric objects and Michael Johansson builds them out of everything he can find. It must take ages to find the right things to build these things. Very impressive and with its own beauty. He does more things..have a look here.
Tapetronic by Alexis Malbert
Oldskool = Newskool. Alexis Malbert aka Tapetronic did some serious upgrades to oldskool tape players and appears to have some skills on them. He does live performances on these machines..

Bass Music Mix 15 by Skyence

And yet another great dubstep mix. The guys at bass music are really doing a great job. Plenty of good sound over there. Skyence played around with lots of styles and tempos, all properly mixed! I really like the diversity of this one. Check out the Skyence Interview and lots of more bass stuff here. Well worth checking out btw.

Photographer Rune Guneriussen
Photographer Rune Guneriussen from Norway combines Landscapes with household objects. The description from “Cool Hunting” is way better then anything i could write:
“The scenes capture a peculiarly Nordic combination of otherworldliness and dark humor. A herd of desk lamps turn their lighted heads downwards to graze in the twilight of a lonely Savannah. Two chairs battle for supremacy on a lonely beach amidst a group of helpless bystanders. A line of telephones negotiates a stony mountain pass. While Guneriussen offers no interpretations of her work, the surreal juxtaposition of man-made objects with distinctly wild settings evokes the fragility and ultimately the ridiculousness of man’s efforts to subdue nature. The clean, sterile lines of the objects stand in defiant contrast to the ragged edges of the stones, waves and trees around them. “I really like this contrast, the colors and lights of nordic landscapes. Some could be mimicking animals, others are just completely misplaced..i think “Telefon” is my favourite.
And there´s lots of other great work on her website. I specially like “Evolution” and “Kraft”.

_grau by Robert Seidel in HD
_grau | 10:01 min | d 2004 | HD premiere from Robert Seidel on Vimeo.
_grau is a award-winning experimental film by Artist Robert Seidel based in Jena, Germany. Produced in 2004 it is now available in HD on Vimeo (before it was only shown in museums and galleries in this detail and quality). Here is what it is about:
“_grau is a personal reflection on memories coming up during a car accident, where past events emerge, fuse, erode and finally vanish ethereally … various real sources where distorted, filtered and fitted into a sculptural structure to create not a plain abstract, but a very private snapshot of a whole life within its last seconds …”Though there are some impressive effects to be seen here, and one wonders how this was done, Robert comments on Vimeo:
“_grau is not really about the technique although it wouldn’t be possible without it. The key is the hidden narration, so everything you see is flowing and intervening from the same basis, just offering different perspectives on the event…”.”Abstract, organic, emotional! Love it.
Watch it in HD!
