Great Animation Effect by David Wilson

März 3rd, 2010 | Animation, Film | Keine Kommentare

ALL THE ANIMATIONS SEEN IN THIS VIDEO WERE CREATED IN CAMERA.

Moray McLaren – We Got Time from David Wilson Creative on Vimeo.

Using both praxinoscopes and the technique of matching up the frame rate of the spinning record to that of the camera, no computer super-imposing was used; what you see is what rolled off the camera. The transitions between each section of animation was created by simply cutting or wiping between the bits of footage.

All the animations were created, drawn and coloured by the director David Wilson. Good job!

Motion Graphics Created with Programming and Music as a Symbiont

Februar 8th, 2010 | Animation, Motion Design, Music | Keine Kommentare

In this article I want to summarize an exploration of digital artworks born and influenced by sound, a collaboration between programmers, artists, musicians and animators. Forms, colours, structures and sculptures generated with programming. I show you my 5 favorites, mostly choosen because of my liking of music by Four Tet,  The Flashbulb and Alva Noto.

For more informations about the theme, tools and tutorials and of course more examples visit this blog www.smashingmagazine.com.

Here for now a fast introduction into the topic, a visualization of  abstract micro graphics and mellow forms evolved by a energized idm sound.

_grau by Robert Seidel in HD

Januar 9th, 2010 | Animation, Art, Motion Design | 2 Kommentare

_grau | 10:01 min | d 2004 | HD premiere from Robert Seidel on Vimeo.

_grau is a award-winning experimental film by Artist Robert Seidel based in Jena, Germany. Produced in 2004 it is now available in HD on Vimeo (before it was only shown in museums and galleries in this detail and quality). Here is what it is about:

“_grau is a personal reflection on memories coming up during a car accident, where past events emerge, fuse, erode and finally vanish ethereally … various real sources where distorted, filtered and fitted into a sculptural structure to create not a plain abstract, but a very private snapshot of a whole life within its last seconds …”

Though there are some impressive effects to be seen here, and one wonders how this was done, Robert comments on Vimeo:

“_grau is not really about the technique although it wouldn’t be possible without it. The key is the hidden narration, so everything you see is flowing and intervening from the same basis, just offering different perspectives on the event…”.”

Abstract, organic, emotional! Love it.
Watch it in HD!

The amazing Animations of Adam Pesapane (PES)

Dezember 5th, 2009 | Animation, Film, Motion Design | 1 Kommentar

Adam Pesapane is a 35 year old digital artist based in New York City.  PES doesn’t like being called an animator. “It’s very limiting,” says the 30 year old self-professed storyteller, director and artist from New Jersey. He uses objects from our daily life and animates them with stop-motion..combined with the right soundtrack there is an amazing outcome. No doubt that his work reminds me a bit of the movies of Jan Swankmajer i posted some time ago. Even if there is no “claymotion” involved and not as surrealistic.

No doubt PES has his own style though. Genius!
See lots more on his youtube channel or on his website www.eatpes.com.

Here are some of my favourites Shorts:

Western Spaghetti (most recent one)

Building Projections

Dezember 2nd, 2009 | 3D, Animation, Art, Motion Design | 1 Kommentar

Hello Friends!

In some lessons at university we got to know some great kinds of media-arts. Some of them where so impressing, so o decided to show this at cityclouds.de. The 1st video shows different kinds of on-front-projections which where put on some buildings. With high-power projector they put animals, bowls, helicopters and more on big-buildings. Very impressive.

the 2nd Video shows the Bayer Building at Leverkusen. This Building was the center of the Bayer Company. After they moved the center, they where thinking about what´s going to happen with this building. They decided to create an art-element for the city. They put a lot of lightsources (probably LED) on the Building and created different kinds of visuals.

the 3rd video shows the same kind of technique like on the 2nd. They created nice building Projections with light elements at the ars elctronica center in Linz. The aec is the best museum of media art at Linz, and one of the best in the world.

I hope you like the projections. All of them have a special beauty and this shows how much is possible nowadays. Enjoy.

Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs Inc.

Sometimes we think about the new future of sound or searching for the new sound. Where can we find inspirations. What are the new inventions to create the perfect sound and which Music Machine can we use. These were the things who were Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs Inc.
thinking of, too. They made this cool video for us to demonstrate how the future about producing music could look like.

When they say you shouldn’t play music with your head, they don’t mean you should use your heart.
Instead, use other peoples heads.

Enjoy it!

The Forming Game by Malcolm Sutherland

I like this playful animated short film from Malcom Sutherland. There’s such a beautiful interplay between the soundtrack & the animation, which is one my favorite aspects. I enjoy to see how the abstract shapes can form characters, typography, animals and storys in just a couple of seconds. Sometimes it looks like liquid, just because of the fluently movement of the forms. You can find the animation group on Vimeo.

Stop Motion Animation Film “Lucia & Luis”

November 4th, 2009 | Animation, Film, Motion Design, Photography | 1 Kommentar

Stop motion video “LUIS” (Part 2 of 2) by Niles Atallah, Cristobal Leon & Joaquin Cociña on Vimeo.

This video is wicked. I love the pictures, the dark and eerie atmosphere with these japanese horror elements. The execution of the idea and the the style of the stop motion effects let the whole video become a masterpiece of its own. The commission of the Illustrative thought the same and they decided to exhibit it.  It’s now displayed in Berlin. I was there and it is worth to visit the exhibition, the work is terrific and expressive. The artists are very talented and you can see a whole bunch of styles, which creates the current illustration movements.

Established in Berlin in 2006, Illustrative has been held twice in Berlin (2006 & 2007), once in Paris (2007), and once in Zürich (2008). Being a big success right from the start it managed to be the leading international forum for contemporary illustration and graphic arts.  It’s Taking place from October 16 – November 1 in Berlin. ›› Read the whole Article…

Typographic fairy tale by Strange Attractors

Oktober 29th, 2009 | Animation, Film, Typography | Keine Kommentare

The design studio Strange Attractors produced a little short movie for FontShop. A short movie which tells the story of the Little Red Riding Hood. But it would be boring just to tell us the original story. Strange Attractors adopted the daily life of a typographer and formed it into a collection of all  kinds of fonts in a cute composition. But unfortunately the film is a little too small, i had problems with reading, but never mind it’s still a lovely and entertaining story and a good opportunity to get to know some fonts of FontShop.

Worst Case by Andrew Thomas Huang

This works by Andrew Thomas Huang are enormous. Dark and mystery mood. Especially his new short film “RIFT”. An impressive worst case animation. It reminds me to the scientific experiments like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Nuclear Research Center (CERN) near Genf(CH).

Listed among Creativity Magazine’s Top 25 “Directors to Watch” in 2008, Andrew Huang’s work has been increasingly recognized by his trademark combination of live action, animation and visual effects. He is represented by William Morris Endeavor and is managed for commercials in North America by Moo Studios and Trouble Makers in Europe.

Audiovisual Mapping by Telenoika

Telenoika Cultural Association was founded on February 2000. It is a non-profit organization and intends to provide a platform for new artistic, social and cultural experiments through new audio+visual technologies. Telenoia’s definition by Roy Ascott describes the critical and connected soul of Telenoika, projecting how TV is affecting the society we are living in and how we reject it to open and share our minds in global networked connectivity.

The latest work by Telenoika is the Audiovisual Mapping @ the Jardí Theater facade on the first edition of Ingravid Festival in Figueres (ES) 9/2009. Firsttime i saw it i get these incredible possibility’s you could create with such an mapping of sound and light-projection, very impressive.

Air – Sing Sang Sung Music Video

Oktober 5th, 2009 | Animation, Motion Design, Music | Keine Kommentare

Who didn´t have a time in his Life listening to tracks from Air like “All i need” or “You make it easy“?! I have and i can say that it definitely marked a certain in my Life and brings up good memories of that time. So there´s a new Video of the track “Sing Sang Sung” ( from the new Album Love 2, released tomorrow) that has made its way to the Blogosphere being quite popular these days. I like it a lot as it reflects the colorful spaced out melodies of the track. Still i also like why Air´s band co-pilot Jean-Benoit Dunckel prefers it to stay unnoticed, as he reveals to Online Music Mag Spinner:

“Not unheard, just unseen. “I have a lot of difficulties to feel close to the videos that we do,” Dunckel confesses to Spinner. “I make a record and I’m on a ‘trip’ — the video is someone else’s trip. It’s the director’s trip, it’s not my trip.”"
