OneBeat Berlin is back to Joao Cocteau in Neukölln for session 5 of the experimental series.
This time featuring the trio ELEPHANT to play a live jam session to accompany silent film sequences.

“ELEPHANT are the ‘contemporary melodic groove collective’. Drums, bass and piano by Christoph, Antti and Marco. Various elements from jazz, popculture, classical, contemporary and electronica, whilst improvisation is the underlying core.”

Based on silent film sequences the following concept is linep up for the night:

For the session we’ll work with a wide range of footage, not exclusively from silent films but coming mostly from around the 1920s and 1930s. The night will be divided into 3 20min parts, each representing a different theme and divided by short breaks. ELEPHANT will be improvising to a sequence they will have seen before, but never played or rehearsed to.

We’re looking forward to it. Check in on Facebook www.facebook.com/events/378658952209262, listen to some more ELEPHANT tunes on www.onebe.at/en/artists/elephant or visit www.weareelephant.com for more insights.

OneBeat Experimental Sessions#4 w/ Get High Fiona LIVE & Viva con Agua – Friday 28.09 21h

September 26th, 2012 // 4 Comments // Posted by Lukas

Fix the date: On friday i’ll be running round 4 of the OneBeat Experimental Sessions.

For this special edition for 1 year of the session, OneBeat Berlin invited the Balkan electronica duo “Get High Fiona” to play live and the Social Good Partner Viva con Agua for a short presentation about their sustainable work.

“Get High Fiona play a mix of world music, experimental electronica and soul. It’s hard to define but instantly makes you sense the depth of the emotions they put in their songwriting. Biljana plays bass on a keyboard, makes fills and sings, looping and filtering her voice. Geronimo is the multi-instrumentalist behind the main sound collage, playing the guitar, piano and wavedrum, creating beats and breaks with his computer.

Viva con Agua is raising funds and awareness for drinking water projects of the German Welthungerhilfe. But aren’t they from Hamburg and what do they do exactly? Where does the money go to? We invited Olaf from Viva con Agua to do a 10 minute talk about Viva con Agua in Berlin, their projects, activities, network, some numbers and of course their main topic: water.”

OneBeat Showcase Brunnen70 September 2012

OneBeat Berlin is back to Wedding notorious basement club. Back in May we announced the latest Brunnen70 event and it was all about techno and house. This time the Berlin-based non-profit artist support project aims to an alternative music showcase. Counting 3 Live-Acts and a DJ, 2 VJs and some specials we’re looking forward to something a little bit different then the usual 4/4 beats. Beatmaker Wermonster will be playing alongside soundcloud celebrity Kyson, One Dub Connection will be performing a blend between funky Dub and Drum’n’Bass and James A.Shaw plan to please the ears with an eclectic dj-set of Breaks and Bass music.
Fear not, as there will be plenty of 4/4 Beats on the other areas including youANDme (cocoon / rotary cocktail), Anais from Berlin’s pyonen and Grizzly on the disco floor, among many others. It’s all there, see you at the dancefloor!

Waves by Daniel Palacios

April 23rd, 2012 // No Comments // Posted by Andrea

Daniel Palacios

DATE: 30.03.12 / 25.06.12
PLACE: LABoral (Gijón, Spain)

“Waves will be part of this international group exhibit that intends to explore the synthesis between image and sound, the different graphical and physical representations of sound, and its evolution in the context of contemporary art. It charts a course of the most representative artists and pieces of the last decade, also focusing on “visual music” experiments by artists from the beginning of the last century such as Oskar Fischinger and James Whitney. ‘Visualising Sound’ originated in the idea of generating dialogue among all of the pieces that make up the exhibition, spanning a century of creation based on the same idea or concept: to dominate the wave, represent and tame it; the need to go beyond the place where our senses have brought us, which is, after all, the essence of all art. It seeks to show the broadest possible spectrum of the multiple representations of sound, investigating the sound dimension of the spaces we live in.”

Waves from Daniel Palacios on Vimeo.

“A long piece of rope represents three dimensionally a series of waves floating in space, as well as producing sounds from the physical action of their movement: the rope which creates the volume also simultaneously creates the sound by cutting through the air, making up a single element.” (Daniel Palacios)

OneBeat Experimental Sessions#3 feat. “Wermonster as Eugénie” LIVE, 13.04, 21h

April 11th, 2012 // 7 Comments // Posted by Lukas

OneBeat Experimental Session 3 with Wermonster as Eugenie

Friday, the 13th of April, OneBeat’s experimental session goes into the third round. They invited Wermonster, the notorious psychedelic beat maker to perform a improvised live set under a new project name called “Eugénie”. He won’t be playing his usual live-set, instead this time we’ll go down to drone, noise & ambient.

“EUGÉNIE
is a new musical project
It´s named after one of the characters in Sade´s “La philosophie dans le boudoir”
I play the guitar, the sp404, the sp303 and other stuffs.
There´s no beat.
There´s no sequencer.
It sometimes sounds Drone, sometimes Ambient or Noise, sometimes all at the same time.
It´s an experiment.
It keeps evolving…”

Oneohtrix Point Never in symbioses with the Joshua Light Show

February 4th, 2012 // 1 Comment // Posted by Andrea

The Joshua Light Show

New York City 1967. When the Summer of Love blows its wind from the West Coast to the city, it brings with it new ideas, colours and sounds.
That was the beginning of the Joshua Light Show, but this incredible show never reached middle-europe, till now. In Line with the transmediale and the CTM.12 Festival he performs with three outstanding musicians in Berlin.
Supersilent with Stian Westerhus, Oneohtrix Point Never and as a special highlight, no other than Krautrock / cosmic / minimalism giant Manuel Göttsching (Ash Ra Tempel/Ashra, de).
I just can say it was really impressive. Hear and see for yourself.

The projections are complete analog. Only with lights and the visuals of colors in a petri dish projected on a wall, he creates fantastic abstracts forms and patterns. The analog procedure makes the whole composition even more realistic and touchable. He plasticise your imagination. In every form your mind creates your own symbols and figures and puts it together in a adventoures realistic dream. In combination with the the electronic music you even get more carried away. I picked some pictures from the website. And I hope the show is coming back soon to Berlin.

Here some old and new Impressions from the Show.
