Emilia Forstreute / Opiates – Amstel

December 17th, 2010 // No Comments // Posted by Andrea

Amstel is a music video for Opiate´s track Amstel. Opiate is the danish musician Thomas Knak /click here for more . He uses analogue instruments as a basement for his music and manipulates them then digitally. He founded and runs his own label Hobby Industries. He worked with famous names like Alva Noto and Björk. As a remixer he has collaborating with musicians and groups of wide spectrum of styles such as Tied & Tickled TrioBjörk,Giardini Di MiròEfterklangKarsten PflumUnder ByenPiano Magic, etc.

This analogue-digital approach I transferred into visuals. Out of different materials like ballons, felt, sweets, buttons and paper-maché I created objects and creatures. I filmed them on greenscreen and composed them afterwards digitally with After Effects.

Paul Kalkbrenner 2010: A Live Documentary.

November 12th, 2010 // 1 Comment // Posted by Lukas

Alright..this might be my first and last Paul Kalkbrenner post.. i tell you why:
I did like his music before, but can´t really listen to it anymore since it turned so mainstream.
Mister Kalkbrenner ist flying high since “Berlin Calling” and this documentary probably is the “icing” on the cake. So i must say that i got less and less interested in his music due to his massive success. Some people i know that don´t have anything to do with electronic music would be totally into his stuff without any clue about all the other great music out there. And everybody would be so enthusiastic and convinced that he was really living the life they had seen in the movie. Icarus on stage.. it was a little tiring..

But Mr. Kalkbrenner is really bringing some good techno to a massive audience, and for that alone, full respect!
In a way this proves that music turns more accessible with the right emotional side-effects caused by a movie, the story of a city or a dj. Kalkbrenner turned into a superstar.. and i just wonder where this ends and what kind of music he will be producing in the next years. So, im looking forward to see some behind the scenes footage, his trips around the globe to the massive venues, and to see him perform..Go Kalkbrenner!

Don´t believe the hype! :-)

The Vimeo film festival and awards

October 20th, 2010 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

The vimeo film festival and awards has its winners. Vimeo turned into “the” host for creative and artistic videos on the web, so the awards + festival work as a “celebration of the best original and creative video that has premiered online”. The goal was to “reward the individual creators behind online video and acknowledge the internet as a quality medium of expression and distribution”. It was about time this happened.. the goal was similar to Youtube Play i posted some time ago, that was supposed to raise awareness on this topic. Vimeo did a great job.

Here is my selection:

– Winner Best Video

Last Minutes with ODEN from phos pictures on Vimeo.

– Winner Experimental

oops from Chris Beckman on Vimeo.

– Winner Music Video

Liars “Scissor” from A Bruntel on Vimeo.

“LAKAIROMANIA” for Lakai by Ty Evans

September 7th, 2010 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

Lakai ist back and on fire.  The video for “Lakai Skate and Create 2010″ is all about the asthetics of skateboarding with some dark and fireish atmosphere. The sound track is great and the credits speak for themselves. I get nostalgic when i watch this, thinking of my times as a skateboarder.. Good days!
