percussionlab.com – a fine selection of dj recordings

March 9th, 2010 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

“Percussion Lab is a collective of like-minded artists, DJs, record labels and selectors. Since 2002 we’ve been curating an exclusive collection of live and DJ sets from our favorite artists, DJs and record labels which we hope will give you a taste of the Percussion Lab community.”

I´m glad i found out about percussionlab.com. I think this is by far the best collection of good dj sets i´ve seen on one place in the web. With great musical diversity, this website is rich on content, organized and visually appealing. Again Praveen and Sougwen Chung i blogged about, are involved. All thumbs up!

click3-550x297

A really good attempt from Andreas Lutz to navigate through a Website with Hand movement and voice. Unluckily i currently have no webcam to test the movement control but the voice navigation worked ok. It´s not very efficient and a bit tiring after a while i imagine, but a lot of fun and more Websites like this one will surely follow.
Connect your Mic and Webcam and try it here.

Watch a demo of it here:

Entire Cities Recreated Using Thousands of Flickr Photos

October 4th, 2009 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

An amazing project by the University of Washington’s graphics and imaging laboratory (GRAIL).  I imagine that in future this could be combined with augmented reality apps for Iphone or other mobile devices to visualize cities and places through the perspective of visitors / web users.

This is what the “thenextweb.com” writes about it:

“A group of researchers with University of Washington’s graphics and imaging laboratory (GRAIL) wanted to see if they could build a piece of software that would search the web for images of a particular place and recreate that place in 3D in under a day.
They succeeded, and the team, lead by Sameer Agarwal, created a simulation of Rome using 150,000 images harvested from photo-sharing website Flickr, and build a virtual model within a day. The team also tested the software on the Croatian city of Dubrovnic and were able to recreate the entire old city, including all the buildings and streets, within 22 hours. The principle isn’t new – the team previously developed tools which can create 3D models from a collection of photos, which subsequently evolved into Microsoft’s Photosynth. But while that technology was good, “Using the existing system it would have taken years to recreate a whole city,” Agarwal told NewScientist.”

Future is now made by Honda

September 26th, 2009 // No Comments // Posted by Matthias

Honda’s U3-X is the Human Transportation Device From the Future!

The Honda U3-X, the automaker’s new personal mobility device, is a boom box-looking one-person unicycle-like scooter for office use, home mobility and travel on sidewalks without interfering with walkers.

This is less a replacement for a walker, as with Honda’s Walking Assistance Device, and more a Segway-style personal passenger vehicle. It uses an electric motor designed to provide free movement in all direction, stop, and adjust speed on the fly using shifting body weight. The trick is the Honda Omni Traction Drive System or the “HOT Drive System”.
