Hey, Rube! – Can You Hear Me Mutha?

hey, rube - Can You Hear me Mutha?

Inspired by Quantum Bleep’s great review of the Hey, Rube’s “Can You Hear Me Mutha?” (Steel Tiger Records) i couldn’t help but to publish it here so more listeners find out about the album.

“Hey Rube! is the new vehicle for Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire) and Steve Cobby (Fila Brazilia) to drive all over their legacies. ‘Can You Hear Me Mutha?’ features eight examples of their studio time together, touching on undefined fusions of electro, loungey sounds, dub and loping hip hop. Expect to hear at a festival near you sometime.” via boomkat

My favorite track is most definitely Pimpdaddy, i play it again and again. Enough said, listen to this gem.
As James states: “if you don’t buy it, then shame on you!”

The Invisible – Rispah

June 18th, 2012 // 1 Comment // Posted by Lukas

Rispah is the second album by The Invisible” out on Ninja Tunes. Brilliant, overwhelmingly rich in textures, .. an album i am sure to be listening for a long time. Must have, must listen!

Rispah’, the sophomore album by The Invisible and their first for Ninja Tune, is out now.

The album, “a love letter to grief” following the passing of singer Dave Okumu’s mother, is imbued with an inevitable melancholy but defined by a sense of hope. Throughout, the band reveal their rich creativity and musicianship. Echoes run through these songs of African music (including beautifully-woven-in samples of the singers from Okumu’s mother’s funeral), psalm tones and devotional music, In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis, hints of minimal classical composers such as Steve Reich and the wilder more psychedelic end of hip hop and related electronic musics.

Nothing is ever included for the sake of it, no attempt is made to patronise or sell the audience short. It’s a record brimming with real emotion and restless intelligence, a record to get lost in.

Isolée – Well spent youth

February 14th, 2011 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

After six years, Isolée released his third album on Dj Koze´s Pampa Records in January 2011. There is an interesting part in the album description on Pampa Records Soundcloud:

“But it’s an equal pleasure to play this album at home on your living room system. Especially when you feel sick and useless, unfit for anything other than the contemplation of your screwed-up life. Throw on the record and let the sound reach out a warm, safe hand, pull you out of the whole damn mess.”

Luckily most of us probably won´t have to throw on this record to contemplate a screwed-up life, but instead just enjoy good music with a life that we are very privileged to live. Enjoy..

Free Album: Das Kraftfuttermischwerk – Am Ende der Kirschallee

January 20th, 2011 // 4 Comments // Posted by Lukas

Ronny runs a Blog called “Das Kraftfuttermischwerk” and also releases music under the same name. The blog is great and has some massive output and growing number of fans and visitors. He featured a fantastic christmas countdown with a series of mixtapes ranging from dubtechno, techno, dub and ambient tunes, experimental and bass excellent selection. To finalize his countdown he gave out his own new album as a free download under CC license. Downbeats, Dubtechno, 2-Step.. quality stuff.  This reminds of a listener comment about the fantastic soulsearching radio show on the radio x website:

“(..)I think that there are some DJ that just spin music like they are alone in their rooms, never taking the time to take a moment and share the real feeling of what good music is. For those kind of DJ’s music is about ego. But then their are DJ like you, who hear good music and want to share it among friends. A great DJ hears a good tune and wants to run around and tell the world how great it is.(…)”.

Thanks Ronny.

Andreya Triana ‘A Town Called Obsolete’ (Official Video)

Andreya Triana ‘A Town Called Obsolete’ (Official Video) from Ninja Tune on Vimeo.

“Second single from Andreya Triana, ‘A Town Called Obsolete’, released on 26th July on Ninja Tune. Taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘Lost Where I Belong’ (23rd August), which is produced by Bonobo”

I like the video a lot as they used the all so popular stereoscopic effect to simulate image depth. Its been spreading over the web for some time now and animated gif blogs feature many kinds of imagery.  See some on abduzeedo or on gesticulation. But lets not forget about Andreya Triana…she had a huuge year and the Album on Ninja Tune is long awaited, with tracks cooperations by Bonobo and even Mount Kimbie, some of my favourite artists at the moment. Looking forward to it!

Video produced and directed by Mister McCarthy and DOP Christopher Sabogal.
