Dj Mix

DJ Olive – Let Us Live Mix

September 2nd, 2010 | Music | No Comments

This featured mix from percussionlab has the genre description: Roots & Acid, boards of africa, roof music, dub. I can only say this is one of the best, more chilled, seamlessly mixed eclectic dub and roots mix i´ve heard in a while (after the Black Family crew from good ol Portugal that is). Its interesting to see Burial, Mala and Kode9 mixed with Fat Freddys Drop and Boards of Canada. The extensive tracklist (after the jump) shows how much music is seamlessly squeezed into this great mixtape! Find out more about DJ Olive on his website.
Here´s the original description for the mix:

“Dub is about space. The space where guitars used to be, the space between beats, the space that echos create. DJ Olive absorbed this maxim in the 90’s, when you were still sucking pacifiers on the dancefloors of abandoned warehouses. He invented the term illbient, only to later claim the term was a joke. He’s one of the few dj’s successfully riding the line between in your face artistic expression and dancefloor palatability. from sound installations at Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennale, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, to freaking the bins at Dub War over the last few years, he’s both an entertainer and an educator.
This mix is a dub mix from a NYC originator – it’s about space, man. Light one up, lay back, and enjoy.”

Gilles Peterson Summer Jazz Mix

August 22nd, 2010 | Music | No Comments

Who doesn´t know about Gilles Peterson? For those who really don´t here´s a small introduction i found at his website:

“Music lover, record collector, DJ, broadcaster… Perhaps most famous for his much loved genre-exploding radio shows on BBC Radio 1 (and 17 other stations around the world including Japan’s leading commercial station J-Wave), Gilles’ insatiable appetite for new music undoubtedly lies at the heart of his success. Worldwide is 10 years young and fresher than ever – a benchmark for broadcasters the world over; global demand for his DJ sets is at an all-time high; the mighty Worldwide Festival (held annually in France and Singapore) curated by GP just gets better and better; and as for his record label Brownswood Recordings? Well, it just goes from strength to strength.”

Gilles great shows on BBC Radio 1 and his eclectic podcasts have been crossing my path many times and it was always a pleasure. Now, i do have a strong focus on electronic music in this Blog but this is great for a change!
Jazz..for those summer nights that are hopefully still to come.

Falty DL – XLR8R Podcast 138

May 20th, 2010 | Music | 1 Comment

Falty DL has surprised our ears with many good tracks and mixtapes. I loved his Bravery EP, and the track Party, released on a 12″ on Ramp Recordings, is probably one of my 2009 favourites. I am very happy to spread this great podcast mixed by Falty DL including many of his own tracks blending perfectly with other 2-step, dubstep and garage tracks.
This one is very soulful and for easy listening..i really enjoy it.

Its already the scecond XLR8R Podcast is post here this month, but i you really gotta say…they are really doing a great job on the podcasts; also Trentemoller did an epic mix 2 weeks ago. I am very pleased!

So the weather is really depressing around here..Berlin is cold and grey and it feels like winter. So i chose an adequate picture..
But, we´ve got fresh tunes: my friend Holger aka Soul Kitchen published a new mixtape. As he told me, he arrived home from Berghain and produced this mix in the aftermath of a nice party night. Some deephouse and some nice minimal techno…

Btw, he published is May chart at resident advisor. Enjoy.

percussionlab.com – a fine selection of dj recordings

March 9th, 2010 | Music, Web | No Comments

“Percussion Lab is a collective of like-minded artists, DJs, record labels and selectors. Since 2002 we’ve been curating an exclusive collection of live and DJ sets from our favorite artists, DJs and record labels which we hope will give you a taste of the Percussion Lab community.”

I´m glad i found out about percussionlab.com. I think this is by far the best collection of good dj sets i´ve seen on one place in the web. With great musical diversity, this website is rich on content, organized and visually appealing. Again Praveen and Sougwen Chung i blogged about, are involved. All thumbs up!

Cityclouds pres. DJ Xelow

September 9th, 2009 | Music | 4 Comments

Cityclouds proudly presents dj Xelow with a new promo mix.

Mister Holger Burwitz, commonly known as Bürgi, because his old man was the “Bürgermeister” (mayor) of his hometown, comes out of the boondocks into the capital city. Berlin is only a stop, the world is next and who knows what will come afterwards!?!

This guy is hot like fire. Fire? Napalm! Party promoters, he is the man of power! When he twists the knobs chicks go crazy, hips will burn, people flabbergasted, sweat dropping from the ceilings of the clubs with him releasing his monster tunes!

Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!

Tired Beings

November 1st, 2008 | Music | 2 Comments
Hey Folks, i’m back and still alive! Again with more than two hours of fresh autum-tunes fitting in for the coming colder season. This time i catched some more quiet tracks than the stuff before, thats where the title comes from. Maybe i transport my mood into the music and i wanted to mix a little bit further away from the peaktime shit, whateva. The Flyer is also selfmade with the help of Adobe. I wanted to create a cinematic look. So relax and lay back, Hope u enjoy it!

.

Feedback is my bread!

Cheers Matthias
