winter's still here mixtape

I finally found time to play some music yesterday night and decided to hit record. Some old, some not so old, and yes… winter’s still here, the selection reflects the mood of the current season. For the tracklist follow the mixcloud link. I hope you like it and sorry for missing out the updates around here lately, we’ve been real busy. Enjoy!

Cambrian Line – Free Rides (free download)

December 10th, 2012 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

cambrian line release

My good friend James runs the great label Cambrian Line, and just upped some “name your price” goodies. A great chilled track by lovely Low Line Relay, alongside Darko Kustura with his deep house stomper “Hazard”, and  James himself under his moniker Borth Sea Defence with Ynyslas (Reprise). Way to go, full support for the Cambrian Line (also recently relaunched with a nice new website). Go check the other releases, some truly good stuff!

One of the tracks you hear and immediately need to buy, listen, relisten and feel the need to play for other people.  Flowers EP is the debut of  Ghanaian-British singer/songwriter Andrew Ashong on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label. The track Flowers is a 9 minute beauty playing with elements of house, disco and pop. Go get it!

The Invisible – Rispah

June 18th, 2012 // 1 Comment // Posted by Lukas

Rispah is the second album by The Invisible” out on Ninja Tunes. Brilliant, overwhelmingly rich in textures, .. an album i am sure to be listening for a long time. Must have, must listen!

Rispah’, the sophomore album by The Invisible and their first for Ninja Tune, is out now.

The album, “a love letter to grief” following the passing of singer Dave Okumu’s mother, is imbued with an inevitable melancholy but defined by a sense of hope. Throughout, the band reveal their rich creativity and musicianship. Echoes run through these songs of African music (including beautifully-woven-in samples of the singers from Okumu’s mother’s funeral), psalm tones and devotional music, In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis, hints of minimal classical composers such as Steve Reich and the wilder more psychedelic end of hip hop and related electronic musics.

Nothing is ever included for the sake of it, no attempt is made to patronise or sell the audience short. It’s a record brimming with real emotion and restless intelligence, a record to get lost in.

Music by “Halls”

Halls – Lifeblood. from Ben Symonds on Vimeo.

Halls – I Am Not Who You Want from The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing on Vimeo.

I really like music by Halls. It’s the solo project of south London-based musician Samuel Howard.  He combines “looped electronic samples with sparse vocals” with dense reverbs. The video for “Lifeblood” was created by Ben Symonds using footage from the BBC’s “Planet Earth” and “Frozen Planet”. Amazing outcome and works really well with the music.

Be sure to check out the Fragile EP on Bandcamp.

BNRY Post pic

I discovered BNRY.. from London as the soundcloud profile states, but there’s not much out there about them/her/him. So let the music speak for itself.
The best thing is.. all their soundcloud tracks are free to download. I like BNRY!

soma FM

Soma FM serves you with music from a blend of deep-house and downtempo chill songs to spaced-out ambient, IDM and mid-tempo electronica.
For all the lovers of gentle electronica sounds. You can listen to downtempo, ambient  and soft rock rhythms under digitalis, my favorite so far. So lay back and enjoy the sensous and melllow frequency of digitalis.
