Nokta by Onur Senturk

“Nokta (Dot) is an abstract film project which is an improvisation of organic pieces while considering themes like power, chance and luck.
I also wanted a perspective that can be subjectified by
viewers.”

‘I see some correspondence between the foundation of universal harmony on elliptical orbit and the predilection for the elliptic forms in Baroque architecture. In both cases harmony is still defined as unity within multiplicity, but it ceased to be static, namely, harmony expressed in one ideal geometrical form, and became so to speak dynamic. What was previously regarded as the deviation from the ideal form, was comprehended for the first time as an integral part of the form, or form of forms, which are capable of endless transitions one into another. ‘ [Amos Funkenstein, The Dialectical Preparation of Scientific Revolutions. On the Role of Hypothetical Reasoning in the Emergence of Copernican Astronomy and Galilean Mechanics.]

Motion Graphics Created with Programming and Music as a Symbiont

February 8th, 2010 // No Comments // Posted by Andrea

In this article I want to summarize an exploration of digital artworks born and influenced by sound, a collaboration between programmers, artists, musicians and animators. Forms, colours, structures and sculptures generated with programming. I show you my 5 favorites, mostly choosen because of my liking of music by Four Tet,  The Flashbulb and Alva Noto.

For more informations about the theme, tools and tutorials and of course more examples visit this blog www.smashingmagazine.com.

Here for now a fast introduction into the topic, a visualization of  abstract micro graphics and mellow forms evolved by a energized idm sound.

_grau by Robert Seidel in HD

January 9th, 2010 // 2 Comments // Posted by Lukas

_grau | 10:01 min | d 2004 | HD premiere from Robert Seidel on Vimeo.

_grau is a award-winning experimental film by Artist Robert Seidel based in Jena, Germany. Produced in 2004 it is now available in HD on Vimeo (before it was only shown in museums and galleries in this detail and quality). Here is what it is about:

“_grau is a personal reflection on memories coming up during a car accident, where past events emerge, fuse, erode and finally vanish ethereally … various real sources where distorted, filtered and fitted into a sculptural structure to create not a plain abstract, but a very private snapshot of a whole life within its last seconds …”

Though there are some impressive effects to be seen here, and one wonders how this was done, Robert comments on Vimeo:

“_grau is not really about the technique although it wouldn’t be possible without it. The key is the hidden narration, so everything you see is flowing and intervening from the same basis, just offering different perspectives on the event…”.”

Abstract, organic, emotional! Love it.
Watch it in HD!

Stop Motion Animation Film “Lucia & Luis”

November 4th, 2009 // 1 Comment // Posted by Andrea

Stop motion video “LUIS” (Part 2 of 2) by Niles Atallah, Cristobal Leon & Joaquin Cociña on Vimeo.

This video is wicked. I love the pictures, the dark and eerie atmosphere with these japanese horror elements. The execution of the idea and the the style of the stop motion effects let the whole video become a masterpiece of its own. The commission of the Illustrative thought the same and they decided to exhibit it.  It’s now displayed in Berlin. I was there and it is worth to visit the exhibition, the work is terrific and expressive. The artists are very talented and you can see a whole bunch of styles, which creates the current illustration movements.

Established in Berlin in 2006, Illustrative has been held twice in Berlin (2006 & 2007), once in Paris (2007), and once in Zürich (2008). Being a big success right from the start it managed to be the leading international forum for contemporary illustration and graphic arts.  It’s Taking place from October 16 – November 1 in Berlin. ›› Read the whole Article…

Skate & Create Contest 2009 by Transworld Skateboarding

October 23rd, 2009 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

As a former skateboarding addict i couldnt miss to post this. Transworld Skateboarding organized the Skate & Create Contest for the second time this year and the results are quite appealing. I always really enjoyed watching skateboarding videos back in the days and most of them are well edited. One of my favourite and a legendary skateboarding movie is Yeah Right! by Girl Skateboards. It had a part where they had painted their boards green to make a green screen effect and achieve an effect of invisible skateboards. Watch a youtube version here (couldnt find it with the original song). The full Girl video is here (the invisible boards scene starts at 56:43) .

So whats the Skate & Create contest about? Simple in a way: 1 Warehouse, 4 Teams, 1 Set of obstacles. And a lot of creativity to make something unique out of it.

Here are my 2 favourites:

This one is the best one in my opinion – “DVS -Wood” . Asthetics, music and editing are really good and make you want to watch this until the end (plus some amazing tricks).

Directed by Colin Kennedy, Music by Air Castles.

Air – Sing Sang Sung Music Video

October 5th, 2009 // No Comments // Posted by Lukas

Who didn´t have a time in his Life listening to tracks from Air like “All i need” or “You make it easy“?! I have and i can say that it definitely marked a certain in my Life and brings up good memories of that time. So there´s a new Video of the track “Sing Sang Sung” ( from the new Album Love 2, released tomorrow) that has made its way to the Blogosphere being quite popular these days. I like it a lot as it reflects the colorful spaced out melodies of the track. Still i also like why Air´s band co-pilot Jean-Benoit Dunckel prefers it to stay unnoticed, as he reveals to Online Music Mag Spinner:

“Not unheard, just unseen. “I have a lot of difficulties to feel close to the videos that we do,” Dunckel confesses to Spinner. “I make a record and I’m on a ‘trip’ — the video is someone else’s trip. It’s the director’s trip, it’s not my trip.”"
