DJ Olive – Let Us Live Mix

This featured mix from percussionlab has the genre description: Roots & Acid, boards of africa, roof music, dub. I can only say this is one of the best, more chilled, seamlessly mixed eclectic dub and roots mix i´ve heard in a while (after the Black Family crew from good ol Portugal that is). Its interesting to see Burial, Mala and Kode9 mixed with Fat Freddys Drop and Boards of Canada. The extensive tracklist (after the jump) shows how much music is seamlessly squeezed into this great mixtape! Find out more about DJ Olive on his website.

ByteFM – Quality Radio Channel
Another great all day soundtrack by the online radio channel – ByteFM.
This is not just another radio-stream but a real independent radio channel – quality stuff. Based in Hamburg and founded by the Musicjournalist Ruben Jonas Schnell it went live in January 2008 – and just a couple of weeks ago, the Ruhr-Studio in Bochum started broadcasting via the worldwide web, too. Of course, without any commercial breaks its being financed only via free donations.
The focus is on music made by voluntary musicians, journalists and many other music nerds.
So tune in, check it out and get inspired by new sounds without any boundaries. (klickonpic)
Gilles Peterson Summer Jazz Mix

Who doesn´t know about Gilles Peterson? For those who really don´t here´s a small introduction i found at his website:
“Music lover, record collector, DJ, broadcaster… Perhaps most famous for his much loved genre-exploding radio shows on BBC Radio 1 (and 17 other stations around the world including Japan’s leading commercial station J-Wave), Gilles’ insatiable appetite for new music undoubtedly lies at the heart of his success. Worldwide is 10 years young and fresher than ever – a benchmark for broadcasters the world over; global demand for his DJ sets is at an all-time high; the mighty Worldwide Festival (held annually in France and Singapore) curated by GP just gets better and better; and as for his record label Brownswood Recordings? Well, it just goes from strength to strength.”Gilles great shows on BBC Radio 1 and his eclectic podcasts have been crossing my path many times and it was always a pleasure. Now, i do have a strong focus on electronic music in this Blog but this is great for a change!
Jazz..for those summer nights that are hopefully still to come.

Multi Touch Light Table by Gergwerk

A very interesting approach to create a graphic user interface for mobile djs. I like the design and the way functionality can be controlled intuitively once you are familiar with the system. Still i can´t really imagine that you can always beatmatch perfectly with just tapping the screen. To make this work, there should be a way of spinning each side to control the record / track with ease..
In my opinion on a professional level this concept is hard to deliver, but for the more private and entertainment sector this stuff is great. Specially with all the mobile devices coming.. Good work!

LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY – REVELATION
OFFICIAL WEBSITE DISCOGS MYSPACE BUY HERE
I guess the more musically inclined reader should know this dude. Besides, being the producer of many Bob Marley and the Wailers records, Lee scratch Perry and Mad Professor where something like the inventors of psychedelic funk and helped the emergence of Reggae, Ska and of course Dub in Jamaica. There is a quote that I read that pretty much gets to the heart of it: „Lee „Scratch“Perry is the Salvador Dalí of Dub.“
So this outstanding musician – living legend has made a new record with release date aujourd’hui (10.08.2010). Maybe it is not the best album he ever made, but it is definitely worth mentioning. This guy is still making tunes being 74 years old. I am not sure how many records actually go on his account, he might have produced one for every year that he lived…
Revelation is somehow less bubbly and psychedelic then some of his former work but its none the less interesting. It shows a new side in his music. It’s actually really funny in parts having a thoughtful and Ironic approach towards topics of our time. For instance the diss of the Kabbalah hype in the track books of Moses or the mockery on Michael Jackson asking “why did your cut of your nose? why did you change your big pretty nose into a little little funny nose?”, in the track freaky Michael.

Enjoy this fun Record!
Dancing Pigeons – Ritalin
An amazing music video for the track Ritalin by Dancing Pigeons. I haven´t seen such strong and well selected imagery for a music video in a long time. Maybe the clip for Fever Ray ‘When I Grow Up’ had a similar effect on me. Great work directed by Tomas Mankovsky.

Cuz – “I went way out”

A really nice mixtape i found at percussionlab from the user “Cuz”. Great selection and nicely crafted. Check it out!
“On a kind of leftfield chill out tip. Some wonky beats, some slightly upbeat moods, a bit of dub and some off piste instrumental hip hop. Names you’ll recognise and, hopefully, a few names you won’t. Enjoy.”

Andreya Triana ‘A Town Called Obsolete’ (Official Video)
Andreya Triana ‘A Town Called Obsolete’ (Official Video) from Ninja Tune on Vimeo.
“Second single from Andreya Triana, ‘A Town Called Obsolete’, released on 26th July on Ninja Tune. Taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘Lost Where I Belong’ (23rd August), which is produced by Bonobo”I like the video a lot as they used the all so popular stereoscopic effect to simulate image depth. Its been spreading over the web for some time now and animated gif blogs feature many kinds of imagery. See some on abduzeedo or on gesticulation. But lets not forget about Andreya Triana…she had a huuge year and the Album on Ninja Tune is long awaited, with tracks cooperations by Bonobo and even Mount Kimbie, some of my favourite artists at the moment. Looking forward to it!
Video produced and directed by Mister McCarthy and DOP Christopher Sabogal.Fresh sound: Sven Weisemann & They.Live Mixes

Craig Colorusso – Sun boxes
Great project by american artist Craig Colorusso.
is a solar powered sound installation comprised of twenty speakers, each operating
independently. inside the ’sun boxes’ is a PC board that has a recorded guitar note loaded
and programmed to play continuously in a loop. these guitar notes collectively make
a Bb chord. as the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually
overlap and the musical composition slowly evolves over time.”
