Last night i discovered the Uphigh Collective. A group of musicians from Belgium making tunes that as they say are: “Razor-sharp pieces of future soul, boppin’ from the deceptively light and skippy to whirlpool synthlines and hydraulic sub pressure. All trademarked by a signature lick of R&B gloss and sunken subs with ultra-sparse rhythm architecture”. I was quite impressed by their song “Blend”, which is performed live in a Brussels based radiostation and sung by DELV!S (check below). Amazing voice and definitely worth sharing again, although this stuff is already a year old. Strange enough, some tracks don’t have many views/plays on youtube or soundcloud. And let’s not forget to mention the label that is releasing some of their stuff: On-Point Records, rooted on vinyl culture and putting out lots of other great tunes. I really like the vibe.. big up Uphigh Collective!

The debut album of the acclaimed duo Machinedrum (Travis Stewart) and Braille (Praveen Sharma) is finally out. I saw Sepalcure in Berlin’s Berghain and for me that was one of the best dances of the year. The live show rocks, so does their music. Will Holland aka Quantic might be one of my all time favourite producers. His first albums released on Tru Thoughts in 2001 and 2002 are still in my playlist, as well has his new releases with the “Combo Barbaro” Band since he moved to Colombia. Tru Thoughts published an amazing “Best Of Quantic Mix by J.Rocc”, great mixing and selection… and important to mention, Quantic has just released a best of Album earlier this year.. Big up!

If Ifan Dafydd is James Blake?! I don’t know.. but this sounds pretty familiar. The vocal samples, claps and cut offs sure remind me of him. And the buzz on the interwebz suggests the same. Anyhow.. love this tune! And RIP Amy.

Wow! 6 hours of jazz, nu-jazz, hiphop, disco, house and eclectic sounds mixed back to back by Mr. Scruff and Floating Points at Plastic People on the 25th of June. Really happy to find this.. altough a bit late. Big up Mr.Scruff and Mr. Points, you sorted my day at work.

A friend of mine recently posted a video of the “Harmonic Field ver.2″ which is the instrument featured below and above. I had to know who builds these things and there you go: Folktek. The artist duo builds lots of these experimental instruments in families. The different families combine different approaches to manipulate sounds, such as sound from accoustic sources, delay/looping/echo or actually the electricity that runs through humans. The Harmonc Field Instrument, for example, closes a circuit of electricity that comes through the human body and is therefore played by touch and with something that runs through us.

Here’s what they say about themselves:

Folktek is an artist collaborative formed by Arius Blaze and Ben Houston and coming to include the video and digital works of Drew Mcyntire (Big Pauper, Token Recluse Records). Folktek is folks, specifically artists working with a passion for sound as the basis for the work presented here.

We work with all arts and consider ourselves a part of a relatively underground movement of a second renaissance. We write books, bind books, work with wood, DJ, metalsmith, paint, sew, make lamps, music, ping pong paddles, boxes, digital instruments, film works, photography, sound art installations, masks and naturally we dance. Folktek is not a major company and we’re generally opposed to major corporation. These works are made by our hands and with our minds and incorporate years of study.
